Sharon

"This is me at the top of Ben Nevis, after completing Snowdon and Scafell Pike as part of the 3 peaks over 3 days challenge, which is something I still can’t believe I accomplished. Usually find me trudging through the Oxfordshire countryside or stretching my legs in the Peak District. For me walking meets my need for fresh air, open space and time in nature which helps me keep balance in my life and the stress levels low. The secondary benefit of course is all the lovely people I’ve met and friends I’ve made through my walks."

From: Yorkshire.

Home: Oxfordshire.

Status: Northern.

Likes: Walking, meeting new people, exploring new places; cats; cake.

Dislikes: Middle lane hoggers!

Favourite mountains: Small ones?

Type of walks led: Local charity walks in Oxfordshire and nearby.

Ingrid

Exploring the British Isles on foot has been my passion for as long as I can remember—ever since finishing school, really. With their wild coasts and lonely moors, these beautiful isles have always felt more like home to me than my native Germany. I love immersing myself in the landscapes and history, and I’m fascinated by how geological forces shape the land over time, influencing not only nature but also the people who live here and the stories they carry. I grew up and was officially based in Germany for most of my life, though I spent much of that time travelling and working in different places. In 2013, I trained as a tour and walking guide, set up my own business, and began leading walking holidays across Britain, as well as in Ireland, New Zealand, and Iceland. But it was Wales that captured my imagination the most and has always held a special place in my heart. Brexit gave me the final push to settle here, and now I’m lucky to call the stunning Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) home.

From: Planet Earth, European Continent, Germany.

Home: The very beautiful Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons), Wales.

Status: Free, happy, and always on my way to go for a walk somewhere.

Likes: Remote moors & lonely mountains, respectful people, wild coasts with crashing waves, dogs & horses (all sorts of animals, really), a nice pint after a rewarding walk, ridge walks, honesty, smoky whisky.

Dislikes: Liquorice, busy places, littering, spiders, not getting enough sleep, Facebook, too much sun, cities.

Favourite mountains: Glyder Fawr, any odd hill that gives you a nice view without too much effort.

Type of walks led: Anything in and around the Bannau Brycheiniog.

Gareth

Since having back surgery in 2016, hiking has become my passion. I love being out in the country, exploring footpaths and bridleways, usually with the dog. Lockdown spurred me on to not let life and opportunities pass me by, so in 2022 I took on the National 3 Peaks, and conquered the challenge. Life throws it's problems to all of us, but for me, getting out and crunching some miles, helps me keep steady. Look forward to meeting you soon on one of Get Outdoors walk routes.
